“The denizens of the uptown wards showed their appreciation of the efforts of the management here to present an enjoyable entertainment, relieved of the inconveniences of travelling down town, a desideratum at this particular time, by crowding this minstrel hall last night. Among the attractions was the entrée of J. Collins and Billy Shepard, announced as great Californian and Australian favorites. They were both well received, Collins evincing a particular talent in this line of business that gives a guarantee of his continuing to receive the plaudits that welcomed him last night, but it is submitted to Shepard [sic] that he stick to the nigger and leave Irish low comedy to more discriminating actors. George Christy, was as usual, excellent, and the balance of the company creditably sustained a reputation already earned.”
