“‘La Sonnambula’ was performed last night at the Academy in a manner generally satisfactory, and in some respects unusually well. As we have already noticed at some length the previous productions of this opera by Mr. Maretzek’s company, we will merely add now that Miss Hauck, as Amina, achieved a success fully equal to, and perhaps more flattering than, that which she fairly won in her first appearance in this character. She has now attained a position which cannot be disputed among the first operatic sopranos of the country, although the full capacities of her voice are as yet by no means reached. Signor Baragli, a growing favorite, was fully up to himself, and Signor Antonucci as excellent as usual. The performance was well received throughout, and Miss Hauck was especially honored by frequent demonstrations of applause.”
