“OPPOSITION does not appear to affect business at Butler’s American Theatre in the least. It was thought that the opening of the Comique in the immediate neighborhood would operate seriously against the American, but it was not so, for Butler’s temple of the muses was crowded to overflowing on Monday evening, and throughout the entire week business was even better than it had been the previous week. A most excellent variety programme is selected for this week, consisting of a regular first part minstrel entertainment. Tim Hayes, clog dancer, Carrie Austin, Zouave ‘drillist,’ and several other new faces appear.”
