“The matinees at the Broadway and Niblo’s on Saturday afternoon last brought out the biggest kind of crowd. Hundreds were turned away from Niblo’s and there was not standing room at the Broadway. At Niblo’s, ‘The Black Crook’ was the attraction, while at the Broadway Maggie Mitchell skipped about the stage in her characterization of ‘Fanchon.’”
