“On Saturday, at the matinée, ‘La Favorita’ was repeated.  The house was completely crowded. Washington’s Birthday may have contributed to this result. It certainly added a good many gentlemen to the ordinary attendance. The opera was given very satisfactorily.”

Review: New-York Daily Tribune, 24 February 1868, 8.

“There was an immense audience at the opera on Saturday afternoon, when ‘La Favorita’ was well performed by Miss Phillips, Brignoli, Orlandini, and Susini. The music for Leonora suits Miss Phillips’s voice, and Brignoli sings few things more sweetly. Orlandini was out of tune in his first aria, but recovered himself afterward, and deserved a good share of the honors of the encore which was given to the duet between Alphonso and Leonora in the second act. The music to this act was sung with spirit and effect. Nearly everything in fact, went off smoothly—except the boat, which, we trust, will have an application of axle-grease before it is next on another voyage. This is the last week of Mr. Strakosch’s season. There is no performance to-night, the Charity Ball having possession of the Academy.”
