Thorough review; little mention of music: “Mr. Stoepel and his orchestra gave some new and original music; but in so small a hall and in such sweltering weather there was almost too much of it.”

Review: New York Post, 09 September 1869, 2.

Long and positive review. Concludes: “The orchestra at the Fifth Avenue Theatre is well balanced, and the conductor evinces a refined taste in his selections. Instaed of inane quadrilles and wearisome adaptation of popular airs, he gives his hearers choice extracts from the best operas. Last night, for instance, Rossini, Donizetti, and Verdi were represented by arrangements from ‘Moses,’ ‘Favorita,’ and ‘Un Ballo.’ If anything could reconcile the patrons of the theatre to the long waits between the acts, it would be this charming music.”
