“The present is the third and last week of the English opera at the Théâtre Français under the direction of Mme. Parepa-Rosa. ‘Fra Diavolo[’] will be given this evening, ‘Maritana’ to-morrow, and ‘Martha’ on Wednesday. Notwithstanding the fact that many of the principal artists up to the present time have been but imperfectly up in their parts the season has been a most decided success. As for the prompter, he must at times imagine himself one of the principal characters upon the stage; for he speaks loud enough to be heard all over the house, even above the din of the orchestra, thereby detracting considerable [sic] from the enjoyment of the performance. We commend him to study moderation. A word to the wise is sufficient.”
