“Despite the execrable weather, a good audience was assembled for the seventh of these truly popular concerts. The concert was one of the most enjoyable of the series. Mrs. Kempton sang with spirit and expression. Mrs. Imogen Brown, although a debutante, won the hearty applause of the audience, and was encored after each of her efforts. Mr. Bergner, on the violoncello, played as he always does, conscientiously and skillfully. The introduction of another instrument into these concerts is worthy of praise, and the next step should be the addition of an orchestra. Mr. Morgan gave the well-worn overture to ‘William Tell,’ and interpreted, as he alone can, all its beauties. Mr. Mora is the best of accompanyists [sic]. He has taste, and his accompaniments are never monotonous. Before quitting the subject of this concert, we may suggest that the solos on the programme might advantageously be less numerous, and make room for occasional morceaux d’ensemble.”
