“At the matinée on Saturday an admirable representation of ‘Martha’ was given by Madame Rosa, Mrs. Seguin, Mr. Castle, and Mr. Campbell—certainly the best quartett we have ever had here in English opera. Mr. Castle has been heard very little this season; whenever he has appeared he has surprised even his best friends by the improvement in his voice and method within the past year or two, and in ‘Martha,’ on Saturday, he made a hit quite as decided as in ‘Trovatore’on Wednesday. Mr. Campbell appears to especial advantage in the part of Plunkett.”
