“Unprecedented success of this mammoth entertainment for families. That there may be no mistake as regards the nature of this entertainment, note the remarks of the Sunday papers. . . . There are prime ‘minstrels,’ rare ‘ballets,’ delightful ‘concerts,’ charming ‘vaudevilles,’ and everything you can think of, all given by a hundred or so of artists.”  Also contains review of “New Idea” format from Sunday Times: “The great success which has thus far attended this fine place of amusement . . . is richly merited.  The house itself has been thoroughly renovated, and made attractive in every respect; so that in regard to comfort and elegance no similar place is superior to it.  Of the performances, we can say with truth that they are first class; comprising vocalism of an elevated as well as humorous character, dancing by as fine a ballet troupe as has ever been in this city, gymnastics exercises by accomplished professors in that useful art, and a variety of other attractions never surpassed. . . . The programme throughout is rich and rare.  The New Idea is specially designed for the entertainment of families.  A large number of the most respectable in the city grace it every night.”  From the Sunday Mercury: “…The New Idea inaugurates a class of entertainments destined to be very popular.  It combines minstrel performances with ballet, pantomime, and the finest vocal and instrumental music.  It is open for ladies and gentlemen.” From the Sunday Courier: “The novelty and elegance of the entertainments at the ‘New Idea’ attract fine lady audiences.”
