“The Spring season of Italian opera has definitely ended at last. ‘Faust,’ the concluding opera, was given yesterday morning to a crowded auditory, and with the satisfaction to be augered from previous success. ‘Crispino’ on Monday, ‘Lucia’ on Wednesday, and Don Giovanni’ on Friday make up the sum of the week’s entertainments. Of the two former we have already spoken at length, and of the latter, perhaps, it would be kindest to say nothing. Even the excellent performance of Miss Kellogg scarcely warranted an attempt which, in other respects, does not merit serious consideration. Our opinion as regards closing the season at the time announced remains unchanged, the events of the week having failed to modify it. We are nevertheless glad to record that in a pecuniary sense Mr. Albites has no reason to regret the prolongation of his venture, and that he goes off to Boston with a full treasury as well as with flying colors.”
