Review: New York Clipper, 07 October 1871, 214.

“Miss Annie Adams likewise was prevented from appearing several eveings, owing to a severe attack of gastric fever. She re-appeared Saturday evening and was rapturously received. She is an excellent vocalist, possessing much power of voice and considerable dramatic ability. There is a dash about her performances that is pleasing. Yet she has fallen into a fault, which we would advise her to remedy. Being accustomed to sing in very large halls in England, she has acquired a habit of using great force, which has a somewhat unpleasant effect in a small auditorium like the Union Square, of which the acoustic qualities are well nigh perfect. The enjoyment of her performances will, we think, be much enhanced by singing sotto voce.”
