“Auber’s ‘Fra Diavolo’ was sung by the Lichtmay troupe, at the Terrace Garden Theatre, last night. The audience was not very numerous, but the performance was excellent. Mr. William Horn, who appeared in the title rôle, was in capital condition, and he was vociferously encored in the second act, when he sang Abt’s ‘Schlaf wohl,’ instead of ‘Sweet Agnes.’ Fraulein Louise Beckmann made her début in the rôle of Zerlina, and gave much satisfaction. She has a charming voice and is a piquante actress. Frau Perl and Herr Carl Formes, as Lady and Lord Cockburn, provoked a great deal of mirth, and their duet in act the first was re-demanded. As a whole, the recital was decidedly successful, and it will be repeated next Wednesday.”
