Brief. “Madame Nilsson resumed her familiar success as Marguerite, and the entire performance was well received.”

“In consequence of the sudden indisposition of Signor Campanini, the audience at the Academy of Music last evening witnessed a performance of ‘Faust’ instead of a recital of ‘Trovatore.’ There is nothing new to be said of the representation, which has been written of in these columns time and again, except that it passed off very smoothly. Many good things in this world are not appreciated as they deserve to be until they are lost, and while Mr. Strakosch cannot compalin that the present opera season is at all disregarded, it is certain tht it is only in the future that the excellence of his company’s entertainments will be extolled as it ought to be.”

“The indisposition of Signor Campanini, communicated to Mr. Strakosch at a late hour, caused a change of the opera of ‘Il Trovatore,’ announced for last evening, to ‘Faust.’ No fault can be found with the change, as the performance of Gounod’s masterpiece is one of the grandest features of the répertoire of the Strakosch troupe. It is needless to add to our repeated criticisms of Mme. Nilsson’s Marguerite, Miss Cary’s Siebel, M. Capoul’s Faust and M. Nannetti’s Mephistopheles. Mme. Nilsson last evening won all the applause that her artistic rendering of the rôle of Marguerite entitled her to, and the other artists shared in her triumph.”
