“The charity concert at Steinway Hall, last evening, was very largely attended. Miss Lina Luckhardt was the principal solo pianist, and played exceedingly well; several concerted pieces were tunefully sung by Mme. Martinez, Miss Beebe, and Mrs. Knox; Mr. L. G. Gottschalk interpreted very tastefully Santley’s ‘Only to Love;’ Mr. Fritsch sang the tenor’s grand air from ‘Louise Miller,’ and other performances occurred. The intentions of persons engaged in so good a work as giving entetainments to aid the poor should always preserve the performers from harsh criticism; but in the present case it is only fair to say that the concert was really an agreeable one.”
