“There was a remarkably pleasing series of performances at the Olympic Theatre last night. The scope of the programme was very wide, and it included something that appealed to everybody’s peculiar taste. It began with the musical burlesque called ‘Don Carlos,’ which is the ever-amusing ‘Ernani’ with a new name. Passing over everything else, though what is passed over was very funny, it must be said that the Irish sketches, in which Sam Rickey and Master Barney appeared, and the negro sketch, ‘Uncle Eph’s Dream,’ in which J. W. McAndrews was the principal performer, made the best part of the entertainment of the evening.”
