“The usual Sunday concert took place at the Grand Opera-house, which was graced by the presence of a large audience, yesterday evening. Mme. Di Murska rendered the ‘Shadow Song,’ from ‘Dinorah,’ and ‘The Last Rose of Summer;’ Signor Campanini sang with the lady the fine duet from ‘Il Ballo,’ and Signor Scolara contributed two numbers to the programme. The vocal performances were so badly accompanied that their effect was spoiled. Few brass bands can successfully set aside their special instruments and take to furnishing an accompaniment of strings, and the encouragement the entertainments we refer to receive, entitle the public as well as the artists to something better than was accorded last night.”
