"The lovers of negro minstrelsy will do well to look in at the charming little theatre opposite Niblo's where Mr. George Christy (whom we all remember as the best minstrel of his time) in company with [lists some members of the company] are giving a series of the most humorous and unexceptionable entertainments of their kind which have ever been given in New York."

Review: New-York Times, 15 October 1863, 4.

“The irrepressible and always acceptable George Christy, has turned up again.  He has secured this time, a thoroughly pleasant establishment—the new Broadway theatre, opposite Niblo’s.  There, in combination with an admirable company, he gives a special entertainment of minstrelsy, which we have no hesitation in saying is the best of its kind in the City.  There are plenty of negro minstrel establishments in Broadway, but they are all conducted on the broadest principles of vulgarity, and are utterly below the requirements of the age.  George Christy is hearty in his fun, but he is careful not to go too far.  He knows how to separate the laugh from the blush, and we are glad, therefore, to welcome him back to the City once more.”
