Review: New York Herald, 21 February 1865, 4.
“All the splendid features with which it was originally presented were fully preserved. The artists sang well, Zucchi and Massimiliani being especially good. Bellini’s Camoens was, as usual, excellent. Mr. Weinlich sang the part of the Grand Inquisitor, which Susini originally assumed, and sang it well.”

Review: New York Post, 21 February 1865.
“The audience . . .  was large and fashionable, and the opera—‘Don Sebastian’—given with the usual acceptation, the duet, O fausto di and the favorite septet receiving encores. Weinlich, who had sung the part in Germany, was substituted for Susini, as the Inquisitor, and did very well indeed, his deep low voice enabling him to adhere to such of the music of his part as Susini was obliged to alter or omit.”
