“Mr. Bateman has engaged a company in Europe for a popular concert season, somewhat on the London plan, and expects his artists to arrive early next month, when he will commence a series of concerts at Irving Hall about the 11th.  Madame Parepa, a prima donna of considerable reputation in Europe and niece of the singer Seguine [sic], is the soprano.  The violinist is Carl Rosa, director of the Hamburg Musical Society and well known on the continent.  Mr. Danreuter [sic] is the pianist of the troupe, who has just completed his studies in Leipsic and Paris.  He is a native of Cincinnati, but finished his musical education in Europe.  We do not see why concerts of this kind should not be extensively patronized.”
