“The French Theatre. A fair sized and fashionable audience assembled at the French Theatre last night to witness the Barber of Seville. The opera was performed to the entire satisfaction of the audience. Signora Boschetti as Rosina charmed her hearers by a faithful execution of her rôle, and was repeatedly applauded. All of the other characters gave satisfaction, and at the close of the second act were encored. The President and suit had been invited to witness the performance, but were unable to attend. In anticipation of their presence, however, one of the private boxes was tastefully decorated with two large United State [sic] flags, looped up with a tassel, and hanging over the front of the box, and with a wreath of flowers and leaves arranged in front of the central column.”
