Review: New York Herald, 25 January 1867, 8.

“Balfe’s beautiful opera the Bohemian Girl is undoubtedly the most successful and most popular in the repertoire of the Richings troupe. The second representation at the Olympic theatre last night attracted another immense audience, and the frequent encores testified their appreciation of the many charming melodies and choruses scattered throughout the work. Miss Richings, Castle, Campbell and Sequin [sic] were all excellent in their respective parts, the Devilshoof of the last mentioned being better sung than on Monday night. The orchestra also showed a marked improvement. The extraordinary success which has attended the short season of this troupe so far should encourage the management to place English opera on a permanent basis in the metropolis. It is, when given a strong troupe like the present, an irresistible magnet.”
