“At the Olympic last night the Richings Company produced Balfe’s favorite opera of the Rose of Castile, in which Messrs. Campbell, Castle and the other members of the company bore their parts with a success very rare in English opera in this country. The muleteer song was remarkably well rendered, as were the other gems which make this opera such a favorite with those who admire the compositions of The Bohemian Girl, Bianca and The Rose of Castile.”

“Large audiences are nightly drawn to the English opera at the Olympic. The Richings company, during the season now closing, have given us a succession of the best operas, and the performances have been uniformly excellent. The ‘Rose of Castille’ was given last night; Miss Richings, Mrs. Seguin, and Messrs. Castle and Campbell dividing the honors, and responding to frequent encores.”
