"'Satanella' keeps the stage at Niblo's Garden. Exquisite scenery, excellent singing, a fine ballet, plenty of fun, handsome dresses and a spice of the supernatural and infernal are the ingredients of the piece. Like the 'Enchantress'--which is to be revived--'Satanella' is a spectacular adaptation of an opera; but Miss Richangs does all the operatic part of the entertainment. Her 'Power of Love' and 'The Vintage of Champagne' are nightly and deservedly encored, and her singing is as clear, cold and brilliant as ever. The dancing of Mlle. Galetti [sic] and Madame Marzetti is irreproachable. Monsieur Marzetti, in a pantomime part,is admirable. Mr. Peter Richings, in a double character, earns double applause. Mr. Shewell and Mrs. Chanfrau perform some melodramatic trifles very neatly. Mrs. Shewell makes her first appearance and a most agreeable impression in a little part. The magnificence of the dressing and appointments is due to Mr. Wheatley's liberality and Mr. Vincent's taste. The spectacle will have a run."

“Miss Richings is singing in an abbreviation and adaptation of Balfe’s ‘Satanella,’ at Niblo’s, and the audiences who frequent that theatre are supposed to rejoice in copious draughts of English opera.”
