“The charitable will not forget the concert to be given on Sunday evening next at Steinway Hall for the benefit of the sufferers of the Avondale calamity. The English Opera Troupe of Mme. Parepa-Rosa have, with a feeling that does them honor, volunteered for the occasion, and Mr. Steinway has generously given the use of his hall.”
“Mme. Parepa-Rosa will give a grand concert at Steinway Hall on Sunday evening next for the relief of the widows and orphans of the Avondale miners. The principal artists of Mme. Rosa’s Opera Troupe have volunteered their services, and Mr. Steinway gives the free use of his hall for the occasion.”
“The violent storm last evening interfered sadly with the benevolent purposes of Madame Parepa-Rosa and her associates, who gave at Steinway Hall a concert for the benefit of the Avondale sufferers. Bad as the weather was, the attendance was sufficiently large to show that a most valuable addition to the fund would have been secured if the circumstances had been less unfavorable. The receipts were probably about $300. Notwithstanding the slenderness of the audience, the various artists concerned in the entertainment sung with a heartiness and good natured fidelity infinitely to their credit. Madame Parepa Rosa, in particular, has never appeared to better advantage than on this occasion.”
“A very interesting concert that would have been numerously attended by reason of its worthy object and its attractive character had not the storm interfered, was given last evening, at Steinway Hall. [Lists participants] were the artistes, and the Avondale sufferers were the beneficiaries. All the performers volunteered, and the gratuitous use of the hall was accorded by its proprietors. The unfortunate effect of the weather, if it reduced almost to nothingness the material results of the entertainment, did not, however, lessen the spirit of the participants, and the talent of all as well as their good intentions was made as apparent as ever.”
