“The German Opera Company have given sterling performances this week of ‘Faust,’ ‘Martha,’ ‘Zauberflöte,’ and ‘Robert’ at the French Theatre, but we regret to say that the business has been incommensurate with their deserts, and their representations have been brought, for the present, to a close.”

“The German opera troupe closed on Saturday night their season of four performances. ‘Robert le diable’ was the opera, but its rendering was not so successful as that of the preceding operas, ‘Martha’ and the ‘Magic Flute.’ Madame Johannsen, however, sang with artistic skill and feeling, and was much appreciated for the ‘Robert toi qui j’aime.’”
