Ravels

“The Ravels are in the sixth week of their already brilliant engagement at Niblo’s.  ‘Bianco’ was kept on the bills all last week, and drew large and appreciative audiences.  The ballet of the ‘Alchymist’ was also produced and afforded the crops of ladies and gentlemen an excellent opportunity to give us some very pleasing terpsichorean movements.  The ballet engaged here is one of the most thoroughly organized we have seen since the days of the Ronzani’s [sic], and consists of several very clever solo dancers: M’lle Vandris, Mad. Marzetti, and M’lle Desiree are capital danseuses, and execute some very difficult movements.  But the honors of the evening are carried off by Pepita and Mons. Van Hamme.  The lady is very graceful in all her movements, her pirouettes taking down anything of the kind seen in this city, and we are pleased to see that her efforts are nightly rewarded by the heart applause of the audience.  Von Hamme is a very clever dancer.  Judging from the manner in which he skips about the stage we should think he was hung together by wires, and himself made of Indian rubber, he is so elastic.  Previous to the pantomime and ballet, the farce of ‘Our Clerks’ was performed with the Gomersals, D. F. Ralton, John Nunan, and others in the cast.  Those whose names we have given were excellent n their different roles, and the piece was well played as any we have witnessed for a long time.”
