“It is worth a long journey to see and hear Miss Kellogg in the role of Marguerite.  She is the very impersonation of the poets [sic] idea, and physically and vocally she fills out the requirements of the character.”

Review: New-York Times, 02 April 1866, 5.

“The ‘Faust’ matinee on Saturday was well-attended, and the performance gave satisfaction, although at the last moment a change had to be made in the distribution. Signor Irfre was sick, and Signor Tamaro was called upon to fulfill the title rôle.  He has frequently done so before, especially during the brilliant career of the German company, when, notwithstanding important but accidental circumstances, he still preserved the fluent graces of the Italian language, utterly ignoring the lusty vigor of his Teuton associates.  There is not much to between Signor Tamaro and Signor Irfre.  Both are useful members of the profession and both have been heard sufficiently often.”
