“’Mignon’ was last evening sung at the Academy of Music by Miss Kellogg, Mme. Van Zandt, Miss Beaumont, and Messrs. Castle and Peakes. The representation is the most effective the company has given this season, and it brought together last night the largest audience of the week, and elicited generous applause.”

“A very crowded house greeted Miss Kellogg last night, the farewell representation of the present opera season, in one of her most attractive lyric representations, the ‘Mignon’ of Ambroise Thomas. Of the many distinguished artists who have essayed this rôle, both here and in Europe, Miss Kellogg can safely challenge competition with all. She seems to have made the part an especial study and to have infused into it all the dramatic fire and thorough artistic singing for which she has been so long distinguished. It will rank with her Marguerite, her Leonora, her Zerlina and her Arline in the judgment of her admirers. A fit companion lyric portraiture was the Filina of Mme. Van Zandt, a highly accomplished and experienced singer and good actress. Miss Beaumont gave effect to the part of Federico, especially in the gavotte in the second act, and Mr. Castle was a very acceptable Wilhelm Meister.”

“‘Mignon’ as presented on Friday evening, proved the crowning triumph of the week, and afforded Miss Kellogg, in the role of the little wanderer, another opportunity of displaying to the fullest extent her dramatic and vocal ability. The recital was fully up to the standard of its former representations when she created so deep an impression by her highly artistic development of the lyric character of little Mignon. The several artists in the cast gave a fine interpretation to their various roles; Mr. Castle who on this occasion was in excellent voice, Mme. Van Zandt and Miss Beaumont deserving especial notice for being fully up to the requirements of the opera. This short season has proved a most successful one both in a musical sense and in the substantial support afforded by the public, who have been quick in appreciating the creditable interpretations given to the highest productions of the lyric drama by our own prima-donna and company.”
