“…German opera still pursues the even tenor of its way at the Stadt. The Merry Wives of Windsor was given last night, Weinlich appearing as the fat knight and Frederici, Rotter and Johanssen were well received, and the others deservedly passed over in silence. Neuendorf acted as conductor in the orchestra.”

The performance was satisfactory. Weinlich’s “Fallstaff “ [sic] was less so, because this role is an acting, rather than a singing role, which is unsuitable for him.
